Herbal Remedies, Natural Herbal Remedies, Herbal Remedy

Herbal remedies are the class of alternative medicine that uses its components derived from plants and plant extracts Herbal remedies are obtained from a wide variety of natural resources such as plant leaves, bark, berries, flowers, and roots.

Although many people might think herbal remedies are a recent discovery, there are many years of practical use of these herbs for medicinal purposes.  Using herbs as a form of medicine has been done for thousands of years. And many people still continue using herbs, herbal remedies, teas, poultices, and supplements today to help maintain their bodies healthy, and to help take care of their families.

Many people find that there are plenty of herbal remedies which actually do more than keeping you healthy. Herbal remedies can be used as a medicinal alternative to high priced, prescription drugs which often have risky side effects.

Natural herbal remedies normally can resolve not one but several problems at a time and instead of nasty side effects, herbal remedies can produce some positive side effects. For instance, some herbal remedies for headaches will also produce better blood flow and oxygen flow to the cells of the body.

If you suffer from insomnia, you probably take some kind of medication just so that you can get some rest at night and be functional the next day. But you should know that the herbal remedy of Valerian is non-toxic as well as providing a much improved quality of sleep at night.

Have a look at an acne problem. Whilst there are dozens of prescription cures, almost all of these are topical, which means they act only the surface of the skin. There are several herbal remedies that work on the topical level as well as the part of the problem, and many consumers have found that these are incredibly helpful for treating acne.

Some herbal remedies contain herbal ingredients which act to stimulate the brain, and have been found effective in fighting Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).

Herbal remedies are the precursors to modern medicine. Many of the common prescription and over- the-counter medications used nowadays get their origin from naturally occurring essences. Some examples include Opium, which comes from the poppy plant seeds, and aspirin which is a derivative of the willow tree bark. Quinine is manufactured from a tree called cinchona.

Using herbs in herbal remedies needs a bit of research and study, but it's well worth it. Herbal remedies are much softer on your body, and they can be lifesaving for somebody who cannot afford to buy expensive drugs or maintain medical insurance.

One of the first things one needs to be aware of when using herbal remedies though, is that there can be side effects, and there can be interactions with frequently used prescription drugs too. Just because herbs are natural does not mean they're not powerful.

There are herbs which will make a pregnant woman have a miscarriage for instance, herbs which can raise blood pressure, and herbs which are natural sources of insulin that lowers blood sugar levels too. That’s why it is extremely important to know qualities of each herb and its effects when used in herbal remedy on its own or in combination with other herbs or ingredients.

One of the problems with trends and  marketing promotions these days, is that one herb will be widely advertised as being a miracle drug for one specific health condition. But they do not seem to remember or dwell upon on all the other possible things that particular herb can do. Most herbs can be used for a wide range of things in your body. Unlike prescription medications which are made to treat just one thing, many herbal remedies can be used to treat several things.

Garlic for example, is an herb which is popular for using to manage blood pressure problems. But this herb will also regulate your blood sugar levels, plus it will help kill virus or infection in your body. It can be used to kill yeast infections, athlete's foot, and oral thrush among other things.

Goldenseal is another herb which has gained popularity in the last few years, because it's an excellent natural antibiotic. Most people don't know however, that this herb is also a natural source of insulin, and larger doses of Goldenseal can be dangerous for hypoglycemics or insulin dependent diabetics.

Do not be put off though of learning about herbs and herbal remedies buy these examples. Be aware of all the various things an herb can do for you, and choose your herbs wisely; herbs and natural remedies can be a goldmine of health and  wellness.
