Digestion Problems, Constipation, Bloating, Indigestion, Digestion

The are many digestion problems which can cause great discomfort to ourselves and our bodies.

Firstly you have to understand how the digestive system works.

Digestion is the breaking down of foods and chemicals within the body. Mechanical and chemical digestion begin in the mouth where food is chewed, and mixed with saliva to break down any starches.

As the food is swallowed into the stomach it continues to break food down mechanically and chemically through the churning of the stomach and mixing with enzymes.

Absorption occurs in the stomach and gastrointestinal tract, and the process finishes with excretion.

The most common forms of digestion problems are:

Bloating is any abnormal general swelling, or increase in diameter of the abdominal area. As a symptom, the patient feels a full and tight abdomen, which may cause abdominal pain.

Bloating may have several causes, the most common being accumulation of liquids and intestinal gas.Very simply bloating is caused by excessive accumulation of liquid inside the cavity.

Digestion Problems

Bowel problems include irritable bowel syndrome or IBS. IBS is a functional bowel disorder characterized by mild to severe abdominal pain, discomfort, bloating and alteration of bowel habits.

In some cases, the symptoms are relieved by bowel movements. Diarrhea or constipation may predominate. IBS is not to be confused with irritable bowel disease (IBD).

IBD is a group of inflammatory conditions of the large intestine and small intestine. The major types of IBD are Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

The main function of the colon is for the extraction of water and salts from feces. today the two most common colon problems are diarrhea and constipation. With the right balance of healthy foods, vitamins and probiotics these two clonic problems can be controlled.

Indigestion is a medical condition characterized by chronic or recurrent pain in the upper abdomen, upper abdominal fullness and feeling full earlier than expected with eating. It can be accompanied by bloating, belching, nausea or heartburn.

Indigestion is a common problem, and is frequently due to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or gastritis.

Digestion Problems

Flatulence is the presence of a mixture of gases in the digestive tract that are byproducts of the digestion process. Such a mixture of gases is known as flatus, and is expelled from the rectum.

Flatus is brought to the rectum by the same process which causes feces to descend from the large intestine. The noises commonly associated with flatulence are caused by the vibration of the anal sphincter, and occasionally by the closed buttocks.

Stomach Problems -

Stomach Bloating is a medical condition in which the stomach becomes overstretched by excessive gasses. Bloating is also commonly referred to as torsion, gastric torsion, and gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV) when the stomach is also twisted. The phrase stomach bloating is often used as a general term to cover gas distension of the stomach with or without twisting.

Stomach Acid or gastric acid is one of the main secretions of the stomach, together with several enzymes and intrinsic factor. Chemically it is an acid solution with a pH of 1 to 2 in the stomach lumen, consisting mainly of hydrochloric acid (HCl), and small quantities of potassium chloride (KCl) and sodium chloride (NaCl).

It's time to do something about it when:

> You occasionally miss work because of your sensitive digestion.

> You sometimes avoid recreational activities or turn down social invitations.

> You feel irritable and out of sorts when your digestion isn't working perfectly.

> You prefer to stay close to home and not risk cutting short a social engagement.

> You feel like you must be extremely careful about what you eat.

> Your sensitive digestion sometimes interferes with your most intimate relationships.
